Varuna Strategies Website Redesign: Before & After
Varuna Strategies helps companies build boards of directors that actually move the business forward. Founder Joe Ayoub has spent more than three decades advising leaders on governance, and his firm had grown well past the website that was supposed to represent it.
The old site did its job in 2019. It had four menu items, a podcast page, a list of past cases and a contact form. But Varuna had since sharpened who it serves, expanded its services and built a real point of view on what makes a board work. None of that was on the site. And because Varuna grows almost entirely by referral, that mattered: when a trusted contact sends someone your way, the website is where they go to confirm the recommendation.
That gap is the most common reason founders call us. Here is how we closed it for Varuna, and how we approach every rebuild: strategy first, then content, then design, then a home for the site to live in.
Step 1: Brand strategy, before a single pixel
Every project starts with positioning, not a mood board. A new layout can’t fix a message that was never clear, so we settle the foundation first.
With Varuna, we began with a strategic review of the firm’s existing copy, brand materials and strategy. Then we mapped the journey a referred visitor takes, instead of chasing search traffic:
- Awareness: what does Varuna do? Build boards that strengthen leadership and decision-making, not simply fill seats.
- Consideration: how, and for whom? A discovery-led approach for founder-led, family-owned, private and growth-stage companies.
- Decision: what happens next? For a confidential, high-trust service, the answer isn’t “buy now.” It’s a conversation.
That framework became the spine of the site. When a design or copy decision comes up later, we check it against the strategy instead of anyone’s personal taste.
Step 2: Content development, written for the buyer’s real questions
Once the strategy is set, we write the words before we design the pages. Content shapes layout, not the other way around.
Clients often come to us with good raw material. Joe had decades of expertise and plenty of existing copy. Our job was to refine it, align the messaging and make it clear and easy to follow. We start from the questions a prospect is already asking. A founder might be wondering: Is it time to form a board? What experience should we add? How independent should it be? How do we keep our culture while bringing in outside voices? The new site answers those questions in plain language, right where they come up.
We wrote and built eight core pages:
- Home, leading with the promise and a single next step
- Services, from board composition assessments to director recruitment and succession planning
- Who We Work With, so each type of company sees its own situation reflected back
- Approach, showing how an engagement unfolds, starting with discovery
- Case Studies, Podcast and FAQ, which prove the expertise instead of just claiming it
- About Joe, because in a relationship business, the person is the brand
Every headline, section and call to action traces back to the strategy, so the site sounds like one firm with one point of view.
Step 3: Website design that earns trust and drives action
With strategy and content in hand, design becomes a set of clear decisions rather than guesswork. The goal: a site that looks like the firm’s reputation and makes the next step obvious.
Here’s what changed for Varuna:
- Navigation built around how buyers think. Four vague menu items became Services, Clients, Approach, Case Studies, Podcasts, About, FAQ and Contact, so visitors find their answer in one click.
- A clear call to action. “Schedule a Confidential Conversation” appears throughout the site, so a referred visitor always knows the next step.
- A more premium look, built on what Varuna already owned. We carried the existing logo, signature orange and photography into a calmer, more spacious layout that feels established and discreet.
- Proof on every page. Case study cards, the founder bio and an FAQ keep credibility close to every call to action.
- A footer that works. Quick links, a “Who We Serve” menu and full contact details mean no visitor hits a dead end.
Under the hood, we built the site in WordPress on a carefully selected Elementor theme, so it’s easy to maintain and ready for new pages, downloads and video as the firm grows. Every page is responsive, tested on desktop and iPhone, and includes an accessibility tool and foundational SEO.
Step 4: Hosting and care, so launch day isn’t the finish line
A website is only as good as the place it lives. That’s why we also host the sites we build.
When a client hosts with us, they get one team that knows their site inside and out, with no finger-pointing between a designer and a hosting company. Brandworth hosting includes:
- High-performance servers for fast load times and reliable uptime
- Security built in: SSL certificates, firewalls, malware scanning and spam and DDoS protection
- Backups every week on the server, plus regular off-server copies
- Updates to WordPress, the theme and plugins, handled for you
- Room to grow, with plans that scale as your traffic does
- Real support from a person during the work week
So Joe can focus on his clients while we keep the site fast, secure and current.
Is your website describing a company you’ve outgrown?
Varuna didn’t need a coat of paint. It needed a website that told the truth about the firm it had become, and a partner to keep it that way.
Not every project follows the same path. When a client needs results before a busy season, we phase the work: strategy, site structure and a technical audit first, then a new homepage fast, then deeper pages in priority order. The website keeps improving while the business is already benefiting from it.
That’s what we do at The Brandworth Agency: brand strategy, content, website design and hosting under one roof. If your site is still describing the business you ran a few years ago, let’s talk.
The Brandworth Agency: where we help you build a brand worthy of the business you’ve become.
